Brought back to appear in Django Unchained by Quentin Tarantino, in homage to his most famous film, Franco Nero will attend the Lumière festival in Lyon to introduce the original Django by Sergio Corbucci.
A native of Emilia-Romagna, Franco Nero briefly studied at the University of Economics and Commerce before abandoning his studies to join the prestigious Piccolo Teatro of Giorgio Strehler in Milan.
In films, where he debuted in 1962, he was primarily recognized for spaghetti westerns, naturally including the role of Django in the film of the same name, directed by Sergio Corbucci in 1966. He also played the character of Keoma, a free and rebellious Indian of mixed blood, in the eponymous film directed by Enzo G. Castellari in 1976.
As charismatic as ever, he is unquestionably one of the best and biggest surviving actors of the European western today.
"Everyone has a first love. For me, it was the western. When I was a kid, dreaming of the cinema, I always pictured myself as a cowboy, riding a white horse."
