Blonds, Brunettes, Redheads!

Pedro Almodóvar is doubtless the only filmmaker in the world who goes all out for the coiffure of his heroines, casting them extremely brunette, platinum blond, or flaming red!

    But where Almodóvar differs from other filmmakers - and excels - is by giving his female characters a common energetic temperament; girls and women of all ages and genders (!) speak at a rapid-fire pace and go after their obsessions in towering heels. Whatever their storyline or varying physiques, his female protagonists are after the same sexual and emotional fulfillment. Almodóvar turns the film world upside down, mixing it up instead of conforming to the well established, pat stereotypes of cold blonds, smoldering brunettes or explosive redheads. The films of Almodóvar bring his heroines together, putting them all on the verge of a nervous breakdown, creating a very distinctive genre. Unclassifiable!
